Most of the west of Gibraltar is actually reclaimed land. The Port of Gibraltar sees regular visits by famous cruise liners and vessels can be seen from the nearby Morrisons supermarket and St Bernard’s Hospital. Europort offers high quality offices and there are various commercial and housing developments in the area
The Eastside of the Rock is home to our most popular beaches. Eastern Beach, the largest beach in Gibraltar and the one with the most sunshine, lies next to the airport. After that comes Catalan Bay, with the popular Caleta Hotel. There are unique properties in Catalan Bay, with great sea views and direct access to the beach. The final beach on the Eastside of Gibraltar is Sandy Bay, with the property development known as Both Worlds. Generally small properties, but with the advantage of a beautiful golden sand beach.
The Town area includes the bustling streets of the City, with a healthy mixture of well-known multinational brands and smaller, local specialist stores and coffee shops. Gibraltar’s main squares, Casemates Square and The Piazza throb with peoples trying the bars, restaurants and shops. NatWest Bank and Gibraltar International Bank offer their services. The Governor’s Residence and the seat of H M Government of Gibraltar, No. 6 Convent Place, are at the south end of Main Street.
Outside the city walls, the South District forms a large part of Gibraltar, stretching from Referendum Gates to Europa Point. The weather is generally better the further South you go. Areas of interest include the famous Rock Hotel, Alameda Gardens, The Cable Car, New Harbours industrial estate, Gibdock, Rosia Bay, Little Bay and, of course, Europa Point.
Queensway is situated to the west of the city, and, running North to South, skirts the actual town and leads from Montagu, passing Bayside Girls Comprehensive School, The Leisure Centre, Midtown, Kings Wharf and ending at Queensway Quay . The Commonwealth Park. an oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle, is well worth a visit. The Queensway Marina is located in the middle of the Gibraltar Harbour
The Ocean Village marinas have become Gibraltar’s prime destination for yachts and super yachts, and boasts a large range of restaurants. Very close to the city centre, Ocean Village is a great place for entertainment and living. The Ocean Village developments have access to the most impressive pools and jacuzzis in Gibraltar, plus a great casino and Gibraltar’s only 5 Star hotel, the Sunborn.
The Upper Town is Gibraltar’s ‘old town’ and features interesting architecture, quaint narrow streets and plenty of hills. With considerable investment, the old town is now being revived in a sympathetic manner
